waste of money July 27, 2010 Tania I bought this because my cats won't let me clip their claws. It might do what they claim, but not if your cat won't use it. I applied the cat nip that came with it and then catnip I give them and they love. Neither cat nip got them to use it. They will play with the toy and sit on it, but neither of my two cats will use it. Do not waste your money. I have had this product for more than 3 months.
Good intentions, not so good product July 22, 2010 mags 58 I bought the Emery Cat in April of 2010. My three and a half year old cat had no interest in it. He tried using it once, and it tipped up, intimidated, he never tried again. I recently adopted a female Maine Coon, three years old. She likes it, she isn't much for scratching poles so she likes the fact that she can lie on top of the unit. The problem is, she has already pulled some of it apart in only 2 weeks. And as far as it filing her claws down, I don't see any difference in the sharpness of her claws.
The feathery toy was destroyed in one day by my daughters cat, but she did have fun doing it.
Works well! July 17, 2010 J.M. 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It's too bad others haven't had better luck with this product. My two cats love it and are using it more than any other scratching board I've purchased before. Works well, doesn't have any construction issues (with mine, anyway!), and like I said, my two cats absolutely love it. I'm very pleased with it.
Works wonders for our 2 cats. July 15, 2010 Evie M. Cox (Barstow, CA) The emery board works great for my 2 year old and 7 year old cat. It took them both about 2 months to come around and like it but once they did they use it now multiple times a day. I dont know how it is possible to tip over since my cats dont step on the side of it maybe thats why it doesnt tip over. They love it though and I no longer see them scratching anything! They ruined a couch of mine and since they started scratching on this they havent touched my couch in months.
The product looks a bit cheap, but since it saved my couch and beds I am giving this
product five stars, for doing for me what it is intended to do.
Keep in mind it may be awhile till your cat warms up to it too.
Total rip-off - cats destroyed it in few days July 14, 2010 Maralee R. Koval (OH) First off, this cat 'nail groomer' is an extremely flimsy item. Anything other than a very light kitten will flip the item repeatedly - scaring kitty half to death. Mine are both over 11#s and this thing wasn't up to the job. The 'Toy'? Cat One tried to grab it & the whole tray went over. The other jumped up, grabbed the fur tail in her teeth & the stick snapped off. The inserts kept falling out of the holder because of the poor construction.
I managed to get them to play on this piece of crap for a few days but it kept overturning and they got tired of it. I glued weights to the bottom to keep it from flying up and hitting them in the face but they weren't impressed.
The cat de-shedder's just a super cheap cat brush (I already had plenty of these & didn't need two more). That's when I found out the worst part: instead of getting trim short nails mine quickly managed to whittle theirs to razor sharp points that snag on everything. I finally had to resort to getting out my faithful nail clippers & trimming their nails back. They weren't happy - but it was that or every afghan was going to be shredded.
The company really screws customers on shipping & handling - 8 bucks EACH! I tried to get just one but no dice. I checked with the Post Office: I could ship BOTH for about 3.85 because they're so lightweight. But it wasn't worth returning since they keep the 16.00 shipping and handling even if the thing falls apart. Some warranty. I called the # on the TV to get customer service and the number I got was no good. All I got was the same lines read from a script.
SAVE YOUR MONEY, folks. What I found worked better was plain cardboard scratchboards. Found if I stripped off the cardboard backing I could get double the life out of them. I put them right where they go first to scratch so all my furniture is now left alone. Cost for 2 - 15" non emery boards? 8.95 + tax.
