This Wusthof Knife Life Sharpener is a two stage knife sharpener with a built-in scissors sharpener. The carbide side sets your knife's edge, while the ceramic side finishes the edge. The scissors sharpener will sharpen both blades for left- or right-handed scissors at the same time. The E-Z grip handle and non-slip rubber feet helps to keep the sharpener in place and safe to use. The Knife Life Sharpener is for both right and left handed use.

Works well on slightly dull knives March 3, 2010

For slightly dull knives, this works fine. If the knife is really dull, using this would take forever. I like the fact that this sharpener doesn't remove roo much metal.
It also has a scissor sharpener which was an added bonus.
For a quick sharpening, this two-stage sharpener works fine. For really dull knives or chipped blades I use the Chef's Choice® Commercial Model 2000 Diamond Hone® Knife Sharpener. Be careful if you use an electric sharpener since it removes a lot of metal.

I have good knives but I'm too lazy to sharpen them. This sharpener is so easy to use that I sharpen my knives regularly and they are working so much better! Great item and the scissors sharpener is a big plus.

We recently purchased a few more Wüsthof knifes & knife sets and the "Wusthof 2 Stage Knife Sharpener" came with a special offer. I have only used this once and it was easy to use and sharpened perfectly. I really like the carbide blades for sharpening and the ceramic side to finish the edge. Makes it better than anything else I have used before. Now I can hardly wait to sharpen my scissors with this sharpener!

Probably one of the best sharpeners I have used short of a whetstone and a steel. Granted, it does look to wear pretty quickly but at the price it costs, it definitely is worth the money and to buy another one especially when you consider the cost of a good knife. That is the only problem I had with it, and is the only reason it is not five stars on my books.
Also, yes, it will work better with a honing steel, as do all sharpeners, that is why honing steels are supposed to be used after sharpening.
Overall, great product, great price, definitely worth the $20 I paid for mine.

There's a good reason why this is so cheap. It sharpens the knives okay, but I get as good or better results with a traditional sharpening wand.
One thing that is excellent about this sharpener, when your knives start getting really worn and the blade edge becomes small and almost non-existant, you can use the course sharpener to quickly create a fresh new blade which is ready for finer sharpening.
